Worksite Wellness

Because many people spend a large part of their day in the workplace, there is a need to consider our health at work. Worksite wellness programs can lead to positive change for employees and organizations. For employees, worksite wellness programs have the potential to impact a person's health-related behaviors and decrease risk of disease. For organizations, worksite wellness programs can decrease healthcare costs and absenteeism and improve productivity, retention, and staff morale.

Examples of worksite wellness strategies include:

  • Company policies that promote healthy behaviors such as a tobacco-free campus policy,
  • Employee health insurance coverage for appropriate preventive screenings, and
  • A healthy work environment created through actions such as making healthy foods available and accessible through vending machines or cafeterias.
