California State University San Marcos joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on November 8, 2016. Founded in 1989, California State University San Marcos is a public university based in northern San Diego County and is one of 23 campuses within the California State University (CSU) system. It has been recognized as one of the fastest growing campuses in the system, providing access to high quality education.
California State University San Marcos is an innovative, forward-focused institution, dedicated to preparing future leaders, building great communities and solving critical issues. The campus frequently collaborates with local businesses, community organizations and key campus partners to implement and advance programs and practices that support a dynamic, healthy, safe and thriving community. Efforts have included educational events and workshops, campus-wide health campaigns, mindfulness meditation sessions and university walks.
In addition, the University is a strong proponent of service-learning opportunities to provide students with hands-on experience. Programs and projects promote community engagement, enhance students’ understanding of course content while also providing services that contribute to the public good. Some examples of this include the Student Healthcare Project, California State University San Marcos' Speech-Language Clinic, the fall prevention program in partnership with San Marcos Senior Activity Center, and collaborations with Vista Community Clinic and the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum.
With over 80 percent of its graduates staying in the region to live, work and play, the University is committed to positively impacting the well-being of the region.
