The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. San Diego Alumnae Chapter joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on June 11, 2016. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since its founding, more than 300,000 women have joined the organization. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated women. The sorority currently has over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica and the Republic of Korea.
The San Diego Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has been a renowned organization in San Diego County since 1938. Throughout the decades, the San Diego Alumnae Chapter has established many outstanding public service programs and events.
Currently, the San Diego Alumnae Chapter promotes the Journey to Wellness initiative that encourages behavioral lifestyle changes for the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of African American Families. The Mental Health Across the Lifespan initiative is a collaborative effort with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. San Diego Alumnae Chapter that raises awareness about issues affecting women and their families throughout their lives, including postpartum depression, bullying and aging.
The San Diego Alumnae Chapter incorporates the organization’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement into their signature programs. These signature programs include: Delta Academy: Catching the Dreams of Tomorrow, Preparing Young Women For the 21st Century, Delta G.E.M.S.: Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully and Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence (EMBODI).
As a recognized partner, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. San Diego Alumnae Chapter will continue to distinguish itself as a public service organization that boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans by providing an extensive array of public health service initiatives.
