The George G. Glenner Alzheimer's Family Centers, Inc. (formerly Glenner Memory Care Centers) joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on November 24, 2014. Since 1982, the George G. Glenner Alzheimer's Family Centers (GGG/AFC) have provided the highest quality adult day care and support services to families impacted by Alzheimer’s and other memory impairment diseases. Their goal is to empower families, keep them together at home and delay costly placement. GGG/AFC focuses on caring for families by providing a safe, structure, social program environment for an impaired family member, while supporting the family through case management services, education and advocacy.
The George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers provide low impact exercise programs, engaging activities, nutritious meals and music/pet therapy for participants. GGG/AFC also facilitates weekly support groups, provides family counseling sessions and plays a vital role in care coordination, which provides caregivers a larger support network. Community workshops and events educate the public regarding age related issues and provide expert knowledge into memory impairment diseases. The staff participates in the Community Action Networks NorCAN, SanDiCAN and SoCAN and the Caregiver Coalition to promote awareness of issues related to older adults and persons with disabilities.
Moving forward, the George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers is committed to advancing the Live Well San Diego vision by supporting staff participation in the annual Alzheimer’s Walk, supporting the thriving of families through individualized care and support and providing specialized education to long-term care facility staff which contribute to the thriving of the aging population. We will continue to expand our reach through support group facilitation and provide meaningful ways to connect with others in the community.
The George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers will also continue to participate in the Board of Supervisors’ Alzheimer’s Project and other initiatives that promote thriving families and others affected by Alzheimer’s and memory impairment diseases. GGG/AFC serves participants at three locations in San Diego and reaches far beyond those three centers with volunteer and additional support programs.
