Operation Samahan joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on April 4, 2015. Founded in 1973, Operation Samahan (a Filipino word for “working together”) developed a mission to “build healthier, happier communities together.” Focused on serving indigent, low-income, uninsured and underserved individuals and families, Operation Samahan promotes better health and living conditions for all members of the community.
Using a holistic approach to care for the mind, body, and spirit, Operation Samahan provides a comprehensive spectrum of health care and preventive services at its six clinics (including a teen center, senior center, and community collaborative) located across San Diego County. They provide high quality, affordable and culturally accessible primary health care, dental care, behavioral health counseling, holistic health promotion and education, and multi-faceted social services, reaching over 21,000 individuals through direct service and over 8,000 during public neighborhood events.
In addition to providing medical, dental, and social services to the community, Operation Samahan also offers programs that help enhance patient care. Their STRIVE San Diego program collaborates with San Diego restaurants catering to the Asian Pacific Islander community to offer healthier menu options and portions. Their Youth 2 Youth Center provides National City youth with a safe haven after school hours for recreation, homework health, peer counseling, and to learn about health and wellness. Operation Samahan also hosts the Filipino Sun Festival in Mira Mesa which promotes overall health and wellness to about 6,000 attendees annually.
Operation Samahan also demonstrates the principals of Live Well San Diego by supporting positive choices and promoting employee wellness around physical activity, mental health, and nutrition.
Operation Samahan supports the Live Well San Diego vision and is committed to working together to encourage healthy lifestyles that provide the healthy development of the spirit, mind and body.
