San Diego Children & Nature joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on June 22, 2017. San Diego Children and Nature leads the regional movement to connect all children to nature by providing professional learning and networking for educators, families, and communities.
Nature is an outdoor classroom where children experience science, math, language and cooperative learning by observing, touching, listening, smelling, telling and doing. San Diego Children & Nature is helping to enhance Outdoor Learning Environments so that most or all schools have schoolyard gardens with native plants and trees; teachers actively use nature in their schoolyard or nearby open space for lessons; and education builds on students’ curiosity about the natural world. Through the “At Home in Nature” program, San Diego Children & Nature gives children the opportunity to learn through their senses and through the natural process of discoveries.
They are committed to continuing to advance Live Well San Diego into the future, and are embracing strategies of this vision by increasing public awareness of the value of nature and outdoor experiences; enhancing schools’ ability to connect children to nearby nature; partnering with community groups to value, promote and provide opportunities for outdoor experiences; and driving changes in attitudes, skills and behaviors that lead to positive relationships with nature.
