The San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD) joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on April 3, 2014 after a vote by its Board of Trustees on February 20. SDUHSD became a Live Well San Diego partner because of its commitment to promote health and wellness to students by incorporating nutrition education, physical activity, and wellness programs at its schools. Through their Safe & Drug-Free School Plan, each SDUHSD school participates in Red Ribbon Week and is encouraged to provide alcohol, tobacco and drug prevention activities for their students. Tobacco Use Prevention Education is also incorporated into the school’s curriculum. SDUHSD promotes good nutrition and healthy eating habits for their students by offering fresh fruits and vegetables and unlimited fresh drinking water, and by reducing the amount of fat, sugar and salt from the menu. In order to increase physical activity opportunities and ensure the safety of their students, SDUHSD is collaborating with public agencies and community groups, such as Circulate San Diego, to provide safe walking routes to school. SDUHSD is also collaborating with the City of Encinitas, another Live Well San Diego partner, on a Transit Feasibility Study designed to improve the quality and efficiency of local transit services for students. Moving forward, SDUHSD is embarking on a comprehensive recycling program with the goal of recycling 75% waste, and is committed to continuing many of its successful programs to support their students.
