The San Pasqual Union School District (SPUSD) joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on October 10, 2017 following a vote by its Governing Board. SPUSD recognizes the link between health and learning, and strives to provide a comprehensive program that supports and reinforces student health, physical activity and wellness.
To promote good nutrition and healthy eating habits for their students, SPUSD’s Child Nutrition program is targeting the reduction of fat, sugar and sodium on the menu to include the prohibition of high sugar drinks and carbonated beverages sold on campus. To encourage a safer school and community environment, SPUSD has adopted the Character Counts curriculum centered on basic values called the Six Pillars of Character which include trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. SPUSD also administers the California Healthy Kids Survey to collect and analyze data related to students’ sense of health and well-being, school safety, behavior, and experiences and attitudes about the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Moving forward, San Pasqual Union School District is committed to continuing its successful programs that support their students and contribute towards a healthy, safe, and thriving community.
