South Bay Union School District (SBUSD) was welcomed as a Live Well San Diego recognized partner on Thursday, November 5, 2015. The district’s core mission emphasizes commitment to the academic and social success of all students, allowing them to provide services for 12 schools and more than 7,151 students in grades preschool through 8.
South Bay Union School District became a Live Well San Diego partner because of their incredible efforts to support overall health and wellness for students and staff in their district. The district understands that well-nourished and physically fit students have higher test scores, increased school attendance, improved concentration, improved classroom behavior, sleep better and are better able to handle the physical and emotional challenges that they may encounter during the day. South Bay Union School District continues to serve as a committed partner with HHSA and for 2 years have actively served on the Live Well San Diego South Region School Wellness Subcommittee, working to identify strategies that help make the school environment healthier and safer.

Their robust website features wellness resources for students, parents and teachers, a valuable resource for ensuring these individuals are connected to readily accessible materials that they can use in their everyday life. In collaboration with the City of Imperial Beach and Circulate San Diego, South Bay Union School District partnered on the Safe Routes to School Grant which not only promises to increase student fitness, but also to reduce the congestion around schools with fewer parents dropping off and picking up their students.
