Southern Caregiver Resource Center (SCRC) joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on January 20, 2015. SCRC is a non-profit organization founded in 1987 with a Mission to help families and communities master the challenges of caring for adults with chronic and disabling conditions. SCRC provides free support services for family caregivers caring for someone who has suffered a cognitive impairment after the age of 18, a frail older adult who is 60 years or older, or families of returning services members and veterans with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or physical disability.
SCRC continues to be the leading provider of caregiver support services in San Diego and Imperial counties, serving 30,000 clients annually. Family Consultants assess the needs of the person seeking assistance and formulate an individualized care plan. Depending on the caregiving situation, this plan might include resources on support groups, counseling, legal and financial consultation, education and training and respite services.
SCRC will support the Live Well San Diego vision of healthy, safe and thriving communities through educational and outreach activities as well as clinical interventions designed to improve the physical, emotional and mental health of family caregivers. In addition, SCRC will feature an article highlighting the Live Well San Diego initiative in their Wavelengths newsletter.
