Straight from the Heart joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on June 20, 2015. Straight from the Heart has been an integral support to foster, adoptive and kinship children and their caregivers in North San Diego County since 1998. Inspired by the unique needs of those caring for abused and neglected children, Straight from the Heart was created as a non-profit resource center to provide targeted support for these families. This volunteer run organization encourages civic engagement, ongoing community support, and a safe space for children and their families to connect and share experiences.
The Straight from the Heart San Marcos site is home to a unique resale store that provides low cost clothing and merchandise for all foster and kinship children. Additionally, the site operates as a training facility that hosts workshops, trainings, support groups and specialty classes.
Straight from the Heart is committed to linking families with affordable legal, behavioral health and medical resources within the community. When an unmet need is identified, they work to establish community partnerships and institute ongoing, accessible, affordable programs. Through these partnerships, Straight from the Heart has received and distributed thousands of dollars in donated goods including gift cards, toys, diapers, car seats, new clothing, and school supplies. In 2014 alone, Straight from the Heart distributed over $100,000 worth of goods to local foster children.
