MANA de San Diego’s Latina Upward Mobility Initiative (LUMI) is helping Latina mothers and guardians strengthen the conditions that shape their health, well-being, and quality of life. With support from Live Well San Diego, LUMI addresses key social determinants of health, including economic stability, education, employment, and social connection. 

Thanks to LUMI, participants have gained greater stability, expanded opportunities, and made stronger connections to resources and community, creating new pathways to pursue their personal and professional goals and build a stronger foundation for their families and futures. Through bilingual case management, professional development, financial education, coaching, and financial assistance, LUMI supports participants as they pursue their personal and professional goals. 

That impact is meaningful, and the outcomes tell a powerful story of what becomes possible when participants have access to the resources, guidance, and opportunities needed to move forward. LUMI participants have reported meaningful progress across multiple areas of their lives:  

• 100% have experienced:
  • advancement in their workforce or entrepreneurship goals
  • increased financial stability
  • increased sense of belonging  

• 85% of participants experiencing educational advancement 

These outcomes reflect the broader impact of investing in the conditions that shape health and well-being. Greater financial stability, educational and workforce opportunities, and stronger connections to community can create pathways toward greater stability for participants and their families.
