Seniors Walk the Runway for Charity and Fun

Talk about Living Well!  Six months ago, a San Diego OASIS member met with the organizations CEO wanting to put together a Fashion Show featuring their older adult members as models and as volunteers to coordinate a show.  Before they knew it, volunteer members of retired individuals put their skills together and created a fashion show.  The volunteer’s backgrounds included a school principal, a sales executive, an image consultant, a retail fashion director, a nonprofit executive, and more. They recruited models, Macy’s Mission Valley agreed to provide a fashion coordinator and clothes for the show, as well as students from a beauty school provided hair and makeup.

The fashion show brought together almost 300 older adults on a Saturday afternoon for the show and tea afterwards. The event offered over 30 raffle prizes as well as gift bags for everyone. The event was a great success put together by older adults who are committed to the San Diego OASIS program.  Almost $5,000 was raised to support the San Diego OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring and Mentoring Program that provides literacy tutoring in 101 schools around San Diego County. Join San Diego OASIS every day for exciting classes and activities that stimulate the mind and the body, and offer opportunities to engage, and give back to the community.
