Free Forum Helps Families Demystify Mental Illness

In collaboration with various community partners, the Community Alliance for Healthy Minds (CAHM) is hosting the 8th annual forum on Navigating Paths to Healthy Minds: Demystifying Mental Illness and Substance Abuse on Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 8 am – 3 pm at Abraxas High School in Poway.  Many people need help and guidance to navigate the multi-faceted behavioral health system, which can sometimes be a challenging endeavor.  This free conference is an opportunity for individuals to join together to share their stories and collective wisdom to help one another through this process.  The forum will offer a day of learning about mental wellness, dispelling the stigma of mental illness, and tapping into community resources.

CAHM is committed to the goals and vision of the County of San Diego’s Live Well San Diegoinitiative, and will be honored during the forum as a recognized Live Well San Diego partner for their efforts to create a safe, healthy and thriving community.

Since 2007, CAHM has been dedicated to engaging the community in awareness of mental health challenges and preventing suicide, particularly among youth and young adults.  CAHM was founded in 2005 by Rex and Connie Kennemer in response to the death of their 25 year old son, Todd, a talented and lively young man who lost his battle with bi-polar disorder.  Rex and Connie turned their tragedy into an opportunity to reach out and help others accept and embrace their own or their family member’s mental health challenges.

Please join CAHM in support of May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Visit CAHM’s website to register for their Navigating Paths to Healthy Minds forum.
