The La Mesa-Spring Valley Union School District joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on May 19, 2015. The District serves a student body of approximately 12,587 students in 21 schools under the umbrella of their districtwide vision: to be “a community of life-long learners who engage in continuous improvement and contribute positively to a global society within a safe learning environment.” The District became a Live Well San Diego partner for their commitment to promote better physical, mental and social well-being for students and staff. Aligned programs and activities include fun runs before school, offering healthy eating choices that are supported by staff, classroom and parent education, and a comprehensive district wellness policy. Additionally, to motivate students to get up and move, the District has partnered with the County of San Diego Spring Valley Recreation Center. Center staff provide physically active games and activities for students during lunch.
In partnership with San Diego Youth Services, the La Mesa-Spring Valley Union School District provides support services for families of students with behavioral problems and serious mental illnesses through Prevention and Early Intervention Programs. Acknowledging that character building is vital in becoming a contributing member of a global society, the District promotes positive choices through anti-bullying assemblies and by identifying safe school ambassadors. Character building is also supported through the implementation of various safety programs related to alcohol and drug prevention.
The La Mesa-Spring Valley School District is proud to be a Live Well San Diego Partner working to create safe, thriving communities for its students and residents.
