Sector: Community & Faith-based Organization

Via is a binational non-profit, working for the last 44 years to improve the overall health and wellness of communities on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.  Long-standing programs targeting family food security and financial stability have helped thousands of low-income families improve their quality of life and long term health outcomes. Via utilizes an integrated development model that relies heavily on community participation to both assure program stability and build leadership capacity at the grassroots level.  Via responds to needs defined by the community and works with and in community to formulate programming to meet their specific needs.

Impact figures for last fiscal year include the following:

  • 420 micro-loans were granted to low income women with a 100% repayment rate
  • 290 low-income women completed nutrition education and health promotion courses
  • 800 school children received environmental education
  • 1100 volunteers participated in local community initiatives
  • 20 housing-insecure teens received art and leadership training through the ARC program

Via supports community-driven projects that build leadership skills, are culturally relevant, promote equality, self-empowerment and civic engagement, and provide long-term solutions to improve people’s lives and strengthen community.  At Via we believe when people thrive, community thrives
