Best Practices for Businesses

Live Well San Diego strives to connect organizations of every kind—cities and governments, businesses, healthcare organizations, schools, and community- and faith-based organizations—through a shared purpose. Business partners have the potential to improve local economies and have a positive influence on the health of employees, customers and communities. Working together, partner businesses are sharing best practices and advancing initiatives that not only benefit their workforce and clientele, but also enhance the healthy bottom line of individual companies and economic competition in the region as a whole.

Partnering businesses are educating customers and employees with resources on healthy food choices and education on how to reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer and reducing worksite injuries. They are also building relationships with key leaders to promote healthy environments and working with youth who are at-risk for obesity and diabetes.

Live Well San Diego business partners are sharing best practices to raise awareness of the impact of health and safety on the workforce and costs to employers.  Customers and business partners benefit from workplace wellness programs that support the healthy bottom line.  In fact, businesses with robust employee wellness programs see reductions in cost and absenteeism, improved productivity and better employee morale and retention.

Businesses across San Diego County are coming together in support of Live Well San Diego by completing organizational self-assessment tools, participating in Live Well @ Work wellness interventions, improving environmental conditions to support employee health and safety, and promoting heart health by getting involved in the Love Your Heart blood pressure screening campaign.  Partnering businesses are also adopting Continuity of Operations Plans and disaster preparedness plans, and developing worksite safety toolkits to share with their employees and on their websites.

The Nutrition Education Obesity Prevention Branch’s Worksite Wellness Program is a partnership between UC San Diego-Center for Community Health and the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. As a part of the countywide effort - Live Well @ Work - the Worksite Wellness Program empowers small, mid-sized and large employers in establishing no-cost comprehensive workplace health programs.
