San Diego is ranked among the most expensive cities to live in the United States, meaning financial literacy is especially important for residents throughout the county. San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®) saw the need for access to free financial literacy education and took action, creating the Financial Wellness Wednesdays (FWW) program in partnership with the San Diego County Library System in support of Live Well San Diego

SDCCU is committed to improving the communities where we live and work. One of the primary pillars of our community support is the free financial education given through FWW. All presentations, whether hosted via webinar or in-person, are complimentary and aimed at improving financial literacy in our communities.

In an effort to address the variety of needs in our community, SDCCU offers nearly two dozen topics that apply to all stages of life and financial situations. Topics include Banking 101, 6 Steps to Create a Personal Budget, 10 Steps to Financial Freedom, Teaching Your Teen About Money, The Keys to Homeownership, Dealing With a Furlough or Layoff, Scams and How to Protect Your Finances, Elder Financial Abuse Prevention, and SDCCU’s Biz Kid$ to assist with teaching kids about money and business.

To enhance its reach, SDCCU also offers a variety of specialty presentations and brings in subject matter experts to discuss important topics, including:

  • Cybersecurity
  • Identity Theft Protection
  • Romance Scams
  • Economic Outlook
  • Elder Financial Abuse Prevention
  • Estate Planning
  • College Savings
  • FAFSA (Federal Student Aid)

Providing these specialty topics in addition to the existing library of presentations offers members and the broader community comprehensive coverage of financial education topics.

While FWW is open to the public, SDCCU also partners with local schools, organizations and partners to bring this information directly to students, members, and employees. FWW was a tremendous success in 2024, presenting 182 presentations to 3,496 members of the community.
