Community Rowing of San Diego (CRSD) is a 501(c)(3) public benefit organization that empowers youth of all ages to reach their healthy potential. The rowing organization has become a fixture in the South Bay aquatic community as a recognized Live Well San Diego partner focused on building better health and lifestyle habits.

Ever since the Port Aquatic Center opened in June 2016, the CRSD has grown a sustainable presence in San Diego’s South Bay region for safe, recreational aquatic activities, such as competitive rowing. The CRSD offers various opportunities for people to learn more and participate in rowing, such as volunteer services, local and regional competitions, collaborative projects with other organizations, and more.

“Our organization is based on relationships with regional youth, community leaders, and rowing enthusiasts. We continuously seek supporters to help build and sustain rowing programs in San Diego County,” said Miriam Valdez, CRSD’s President.

One example of the many recreational activities CRSD offers is its indoor ergometer sessions and land training. Qualified instructors lead weekend ERGOMETER sessions that are open to the public, averaging about 10 people per class. Additionally, each June, National Learn to Row Day is held at the Port’s Aquatic Center. The open house allows for CRSD to attract more visitors to the Aquatic Center and encourage an interest in taking to the water.  CRSD Photo 1

“Through financial support and partnerships, we expanded opportunities of rowing and life skill development to underserved communities,” said Valdez. “We continue to grow and introduce more student-athletes and adults to the sport of rowing. We are excited to view our real impact on individuals, veterans’ groups, and our communities.”

Recent CRSD accomplishments include:

  • Providing six weeks of summer rowing camps with 110 middle school and high school participants.

  • Expansion of a Coastal Rowing center of excellence with community clinics.

  • Competitive high school scholastic rowing: training with a crew of 11 youth for local and regional competitions

  • San Diego Crew Classic volunteer service and collaboration for projects, such as Rowing for Cancer Survivors in partnership with Rowing Cares.

  • In partnership with the Living Discovery Center, an Explore the Coast project for youth: afterschool aquatic and STEM training is provided for about 25 students each semester

CRSD became a recognized partner of Live Well San Diego's in June 2018. For six years, they have impacted the lives of San Diego County residents to build better health habits with structured physical activities and lifestyle recommendations.
