At Black Women Adventures (BWA), our mission extends beyond movement—it’s about building a sisterhood that uplifts, supports, and strengthens each woman on her journey to better health. This Galentine’s Day, we embodied that mission as we embarked on a transformative trip to Joshua Tree National Park, filled with connection, exploration, and healing.
More Than a Destination—A Journey of Connection
The three-hour drive from San Diego to Joshua Tree was more than just travel time; it was an opportunity for shared stories, deep conversations, and laughter. Through our carpool service, we eliminated barriers to participation, ensuring that distance would not be an obstacle for adventure. For three of the four women who joined, this was their first time visiting Joshua Tree, a reminder that BWA continues to create new experiences and opportunities for Black women to explore and thrive.
The Power of Community and Movement
Led by our fearless BWA Ambassador, Tatina Lloyd, our hike through Joshua Tree was a perfect blend of physical challenge, education, and empowerment. Tatina not only ensures our safety on the trails but also connect us with other wellness organizations in San Diego, such as:
- 40+ Double Dutch Group – Encouraging active play for women over 40
- Black Girls Social Club – A space for networking, joy, and empowerment
- Fit Black and Educated – Promoting movement and fitness for Black communities
Through these connections, BWA strengthens its reach, fostering a network of health and wellness organizations dedicated to keeping Black women be active and engaged.
Shaping the Future of Health and Well-Being
Black Women Adventures is building better health by:
- Providing accessible wellness opportunities for Black women
- Creating a safe, supportive community that prioritizes physical and mental well-being
- Expanding awareness of other health-focused organizations and resources
Though this Galentine’s trip was small in numbers, its impact was immeasurable. At the end of the day, we received messages of gratitude. One participant wrote:
“Thank you for creating such a great nonprofit to keep us moving and experiencing new places and journeys.”
As we continue to grow, partner, and inspire, we reaffirm our commitment to making wellness inclusive, accessible, and transformative. Because at BWA, it’s not just about hiking—it’s about elevating Black women’s health, one adventure at a time.
