Turning Data Into Action: New Insights from Dashboards Across San Diego County

Using Data to Strengthen Our Communities

The County of San Diego serves more than 3 million residents, and is committed to making the data behind our work clear and accessible. The dashboards below offer a snapshot of key issues shaping our region—from public health and youth wellbeing to aging, homelessness, and offer transparent insights into how the County of San Diego is serving our community and responding to changing needs. Each tool is designed to help residents, partners, and policymakers better understand local trends and the needs of our communities.

 

County Strategic Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) 

San Diego County has introduced a new set of 26 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)—covering areas like small-local business spend, employee engagement, justice system transparency, and greenhouse gas emissions—to provide a clear, unified view of progress across its five strategic priorities: community, empower, equity, justice, and sustainability. These KPIs are updated quarterly for staff and reported annually to the public, ensuring transparent tracking of how the County serves its residents.

The Child and Teen Health and Well-Being Dashboard

The Child and Teen Health and Well-Being Brief and Dashboard highlight health and well-being outcomes among the population 0-17 years in San Diego County. The Child and Teen Health and Well-Being dashboard and the accompanying brief focus on: demographics, social determinants of health (SDOH), education and immunization indicators, homelessness, mortality and morbidity outcomes.

Local Wastewater for Diseases Dashboard 

San Diego County’s Public Health Laboratory has begun in‑house testing of local wastewater—sampling from Point Loma, South Bay, and Encina—to track pathogens like SARS‑CoV‑2, Influenza A and B, and RSV, with future plans to expand to additional diseases. This dashboard is updated biweekly and provides early insight into community health trends before clinical cases are detected. 

Respiratory Virus Surveillance Report 

Stay informed with the latest trends in COVID-19, influenza, and RSV across San Diego County. The report tracks cases, hospitalizations, outbreaks, vaccination coverage, and even wastewater data—helping public health experts and the community stay ahead of seasonal respiratory illnesses.  

 

Aging Dashboard to Support Older Adults 

San Diego County has rolled out a new Aging Dashboard—an interactive tool featuring over 50 indicators on housing, health, caregiving, equity, and affordability, modeling California’s Master Plan for Aging to support the rapidly growing 60+ population. Use it to explore data on hospitalization rates, housing costs, and more—empowering policymakers, community partners, and families to understand and address the needs of older adults. 

 

Ending Homelessness Dashboards 

San Diego County’s Office of Homeless Solutions has launched a Program Dashboard that highlights direct outreach, case management services, and homeless support programs, offering transparent, real-time insights into homelessness services and outcomes across the region. The dashboard enhances collaborative efforts to assist people experiencing or at risk of homelessness through multi-disciplinary partnerships.

As part of our Measuring What Matters initiative, we’re expanding the Regional Data Hub to highlight dashboards and tools created by partners across San Diego County. Through the Virtual Connection Hub (VCH), organizations can submit dashboards they’d like to share with the region.
