Alzheimer’s Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation Grant
The Alzheimer’s Association is accepting applications for the Center for Dementia Respite Innovation Grant. The Center for Dementia Respite Innovation is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to making respite service providers (adult day centers, in-home services, innovative models) more dementia-capable and provide the best person-centered care possible.
Beginning in July 2024, the Center for Dementia Respite Innovation will provide a maximum of 20 grants totaling $4 million annually for the next five years to respite providers.
Local organizations or providers, currently, or interested in, providing dementia-related respite services with a focus on underserved communities are encouraged to learn more and apply at alz.org/CDRI. Applications are due on June 1.
There are 11 million Americans providing unpaid care for people living with dementia. Currently the United States has just one adult day care center or home health agency providing respite care for every 650 dementia caregivers who might benefit from these services. The Alzheimer’s Association is pioneering a national effort to enhance and expand respite care to bring these caregivers relief.
“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to enhance and expand respite care here in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Respite care and services are an integral part of successful caregiving and we hope the Center for Dementia Respite Innovation Grant will elevate access and options for our community,” explained Janet Hamada Kelley, Alzheimer’s Association San Diego/Imperial County Executive Director.
“This grant is just one of the ways we can collaborate with our community to make a greater impact in providing person centered care for those impacted by dementia,” she added.
Respite care provides caregivers a temporary rest from caregiving, while the person living with Alzheimer's continues to receive care in a safe environment.
