Every year, organizations and community members flock together to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community during San Diego Pride. Colorful floats and banners put together by marching parties fly through the streets of Hillcrest in a proud display of love and acceptance.

Amongst those who participated in San Diego Pride 2024 were California Schools VEBA and the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE). 

"This is the greatest force of love that this community can display," remarked Dr. Gloria Ciriza, the San Diego County Superintendent of Schools.

California Schools VEBA proudly sponsored the SDCOE Pride Family Picnic: Celebrating "Equity is Love in Action."

"This year, we wanted to continue [the] energy at the end of the parade, so California Schools Veba [provided] an opportunity for us to picnic together and community together," said Marisa Brough, the District Advisor of Equity at SDCOE.

The picnic brought together families, educators, and community members for a day filled with joy, connection, and empowerment. By sponsoring this event, VEBA reaffirmed its commitment to fostering inclusive, diverse, and equitable communities.

Kristen LoPrell, the Community Grand Marshal and a proud California Schools VEBA member, shared, "I'm grateful that VEBA has been unapologetically supportive of me and my wife having the same rights." Her words echo VEBA's core belief that health is universal, and equity is a vital part of well-being.

VEBA believes that everyone deserves access to the resources and support they need to thrive regardless of their background or identity. By standing with their members and sponsoring this celebration of love and equality, VEBA continues to promote the belief that equity is not just a value but a fundamental action.

It was VEBA's honor to support such a meaningful event and a true reflection of VEBA's dedication to the community and to building a healthier, more inclusive future for all.
