What started as a temporary measure during the pandemic has transformed into a vital community program that continues to thrive in 2024. It’s the Oceanside Library’s Home Delivery service. Through the program, thousands of library books and materials are delivered every month directly  to Oceanside residents.

Many find this option a breath of fresh air. Frazzled parents, those with disabilities, or just those planning ahead for good reading material can hop on the library’s website, place a hold on selected items, and choose “delivery.”

It’s like having a personal librarian on speed dial, delivering stories right to your door. No waiting in line, no dodging traffic—just good reads right where you want them.

Originally designed for residents with disabilities that made it difficult to visit the library in person, the home delivery service now reaches everyone within Oceanside’s borders. And it’s not just about the convenience, although that alone is a game-changer. This program is a lifeline for those who find joy in having access to endless reading and other materials at the click of a button.

Residents are no longer limited to just books in Oceanside. Anyone in the city can request library material from over seventy library systems across the state and have it delivered to your doorstep – just click “request from another library” on the Library’s website.

The Oceanside Public Library takes its role as a community resource very seriously. Can't decide on your next book?  Need a recommendation for a new author or topic?  Librarians are happy to curate a selection tailored to your tastes. It’s a delightful service that adds a personal touch It’s like having your very own reading concierge.

While some may view the library as just a place for books, it’s programs like these that show that it’s so much more. Oceanside is not just adapting to change; it's driving it. This home delivery service is making a real difference. . Homeschooling parents have told the library that they wouldn’t be able to teach without the service. They’ve heard from Assisted Care Facilities whose residents’ only access to books is through this system.  And of course, they’ve heard from people working more than one job who just can’t make it to the library due to their schedules.
