Helping the community to Live Well is what drives the work behind Bonita Family Resource Center. Our mission is to help underserved families, youth, and seniors from San Diego County reach their maximum potential geared toward a healthier lifestyle with access to health coverage, health education, nutritious food, information, and available resources.

With 1 in 4 (25%) San Diegans experiencing nutrition insecurity, Bonita Family Resource Center is highly committed to helping underserved families, seniors and youth have access to nutritious food. One way of doing this is by conducting personable community outreach and enrollment for the CalFresh program. Bonita Family Resource Center enrollment team has the compassion and experience to answer questions and help ease concerns with program eligibility. Our partnership with the San Diego Hunger Coalition and 211 San Diego, has given Bonita Family Resource Center BFRC the tools to expand the CalFresh Program to even more families, seniors and youth. In 2024, Bonita Family Resource Center helped over 500 individuals and family members apply for or retain CalFresh benefits.

Another approach that Bonita Family Resource Center is using to address food insecurity is through the 2024 launch of the Healthy Meal Distribution program. The program was designed to provide densely nutritious meals to youth experiencing homelessness or transitioning out of foster care. Bonita Family Resource Center’s vision for this program is to provide warm meals rich in nutrients that can contribute to mental and body wellness. To date, Bonita Family Resource Center has provided over 150 meals in partnership with local foster youth organizations and is excited to continue with the support of our community partners.
