The North Central Region of San Diego County is bordered by Interstate 8 in the south, the Pacific Ocean to the west, Del Mar and state route 56 to the north and extends to include Scripps Ranch and San Carlos to the East.

North Central Region is one of the most diverse geographical regions in the county, including miles of pristine pacific coastline, steep canyons, valleys, and mountainous terrains.

The region encompasses the northern half of the City of San Diego, and in all, consists of 24 smaller communities including Linda Vista, Mission Valley, Clairemont and La Jolla. The North Central Region has a population of over 618,000 residents and is comprised of coastal towns, university communities, suburban areas, and military facilities.

The Community Enrichment Plan (CEP) outlines an action plan to address several strategic focus areas that are based on community health, safety and thriving needs in North Central identified by the Community Health Assessment. The CEP helps health officials and community members’ work together to set priorities, direct the use of resources, and develop and implement projects and programs to improve community health and wellness over the long term.

The CEP is continually guided by the North Central Community Leadership Team, a group of community leaders who help to support the plan.

3-4-50: Chronic Disease in North Central

3-4-50 are the three numbers that led to the inception of the Live Well San Diego vision and serve as the cornerstone of the Building Better Health strategy. Three behaviors contribute to four diseases that cause over 50 percent of deaths worldwide-- 53% of deaths in San Diego County’s North Central Region.

Community leaders have partnered with County representatives in the North Central Regions to better understand these trends and to plan for ways to change health behaviors, which in turn could help to prevent these chronic conditions.

Community Health Assessment

A Community Health Assessment is a collaborative process of collecting information to help educate and mobilize communities, develop priorities, secure resources and plan actions to improve a region’s health. The Community Health Assessment in North Central set the framework for developing the North Central Community Enrichment Plan.
